In 2024, Iowa introduced SF2101, championed by Senator Boulton, which would authorize medical aid in dying. Its companion House bill, HF2288, was introduced by Representatives Croken, Abdul-Samad, Steckman, and Olson. Unfortunately, neither bill received a hearing.
On February 11, 2020, Compassion & Choices joined Sen. Joe Bolkcom and Rep. Mary Mascher to introduce the Iowa End-of-Life Options Act (SF 2156/HF 2302) at a press conference in the state Capitol.
In 2019, the Iowa End-of-Life Options Act was introduced in both the House and Senate (SF 175/HF 374) but did not advance.

In 2016, the Iowa Death with Dignity Act (SF 2051) SF 2051, Iowa Death with Dignity Act was introduced. On February 10, it received its first hearing but no vote took place. The bill did not advance after missing a committee deadline.
In 2015, the Iowa Death with Dignity Act (HF 65) was introduced for the first time over a decade. The bill did not advance after missing a committee deadline.
