Status of Medical Aid in Dying

Medical aid in dying has been authorized in Washington since 2009. On February 7, 2025, HB 1876 was introduced by Rep. Skyler Rude and Rep. Strom Peterson to improve Washington’s Death with Dignity Act. A hearing is scheduled for this bill on February 14, 2025 in the Early Learning and Human Services Committee.

Strom Peterson, a bill to improve Washington’s Death with Dignity Act (HB 1876) was reintroduced for the 2026 legislative session on January 12, 2026.
