Dr. Csaba Mera, writer and executive producer of the movie Here Awhile, discusses his motivation and journey to creating this film about end-of-life choices. He will highlight some of the influences in his personal and professional life that inspired him, and he will highlight key elements of the story. Dr. Katherine Morris will join him and discuss her role as a consultant on the movie and also share some of her medical aid in dying clinical experience as well as her role in the award-winning documentary, How to Die in Oregon.

This presentation will focus upon the history and evolution of medical aid in dying medications, current protocols, “red flags,” possible complications, and options for ingestion. In addition, the importance of providing patient-centered informed consent, appropriate contextual support, resources, and security of storage will be discussed. Attendees will also learn the pharmacology of aid in dying compounds, their expected action, and post-ingestion effects.
