C&C Offers Perspective on Aging Issues

January 14, 2016

As the largest segment of America’s population advances in age – and increasingly takes care of elderly parents – shortcomings in the healthcare system specifically affecting those nearing the end of life have become harder to ignore. So one focus of C&C’s federal policy efforts is to better serve the needs of aging Americans.

Compassion & Choices Federal Affairs Director Mark Dann attended the January meeting of the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations (LCOA), of which C&C is a coalition member. He will also play an active role in the LCOA’s Seniors Decide forum in February, a dialogue with presidential candidates about policies and programs important to America’s older adults. You can join the conversation by submitting a question for the 2016 candidates here.

On March 21, C&C’s Chief Program Officer Kim Callinan and National Medical Director Dr. David Grube will present an informative workshop at the American Society of Aging’s annual Aging in America (AIA) conference. Over 3,000 attendees from around the world assemble at the event to learn, network and participate in what is the largest multidisciplinary conference covering issues of aging and quality of life for older adults. Callinan and Grube’s workshop, Patient Centered Care: Translating Patients’ Wishes into Federal and State Policy, will outline the concerns of patients and caregivers around end-of-life care, the federal policy landscape documented in the Institute of Medicine’s recent Dying in America report, current efforts to pass legislation around person-centered care, and innovative policy ideas to reduce unwanted medical treatment.

The AIA conference is open to the public; click here to register or learn more.
