Medical aid-in-dying legislation was introduced in Tennessee in January 2025 through Senate Bill 640, sponsored by Sen. Heidi Campbell, and companion House Bill 598, sponsored by Rep. Bob Freeman.
SB 640 was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. HB 598 was referred to the Population Health Subcommittee, where it received a hearing on March 4, 2025, and failed to advance on an 8-2 vote.
The Tennessee General Assembly adjourned its 2025/2026 session on April 24, 2026, without further action on either bill.
