Bills to authorize medical aid in dying were introduced in the Pennsylvania House (HB1109) and Senate (SB570) in early 2025. The bills remain active until the end of the 2025-2026 legislative session on November 30th, 2026.
March 20th 2023, HB543 was introduced in the house. In addition, SB816 was introduced in the senate on June 23, 2023.
On November 14, 2019, HB 2033, the Compassionate Assisted Dignified Death Act was introduced and referred to the House Judiciary Committee. It did not move any further.
On January 26, 2017, State Senators Daylin Leach and Lisa Boscola introduced Senate Bill 238, the Pennsylvania Death with Dignity Act. The bill was referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee but did not advance.
Senator Daylin Leach previously introduced medical aid-in-dying legislation in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
