On April 25, 2023, the North Carolina House of Representatives introduced HB877 which, if passed, would direct the North Carolina University of Medicine to study the authorization of medical aid in dying in North Carolina and report back to the legislature the results of the study, including any appropriations needed. The bill has bipartisan support, but unfortunately, it did not move forward.
On May 3, 2021, the North Carolina House of Representatives introduced H.B 780, legislation authorizing medical aid in dying, with bipartisan support. The bill was referred to the committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House.
HB 879, the North Carolina End of Life Option Act was introduced on April 16, 2019. It passed its first reading in the House and moved to the Committee On Rules, Calendar, and Operations of the House where it failed to make any progress.
The North Carolina End of Life Option Act (NC H789) was introduced April 11, 2017, by Representative Pricey Harrison (D-Guilford) and co-sponsors Graig Meyer (D-Durham) and Susan Fisher (D-Buncombe) and was referred to the House Committee on Rules, Calendar, and Operations.
