New York’s Medical Aid in Dying Act (A136/S138), sponsored by Assemblymember Amy Paulin and Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, was passed by the Assembly in a historic 81-67 vote on April 29; and passed the Senate on a 35-27 on June 9. The bill must now be sent to the Governor Kathy Hochul for her signature before it becomes law.
First introduced in 2016, this measure has garnered support among a growing chorus of lawmakers, voters, and civic organizations representing the Empire State’s broad diversity. This dynamic group is urging Governor Hochul to lead with love and sign this critical bill without delay.
