On January 20, 2026, HB2569 — which would authorize medical aid in dying in Arizona — was introduced by Rep. Christopher Mathis with co-sponsors Rep. Oscar De Los Santos and Rep. Nancy Gutierrez. The bill is assigned to both the Health & Human Services and Rules committees.
The Medical Aid in Dying bill would allow a terminally ill, mentally capable adult with a prognosis of six months or less to live, the option to request, obtain and take medication — should they choose — to die peacefully in their sleep if their suffering becomes unbearable.
