Dear Editor:

I strongly support New Jersey’s Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act.
I am outraged about the recent court ruling temporarily suspending the law that now prevents mentally capable, terminally ill adults with six months or less to live from using the law to request medical aid in dying as a palliative care option to peacefully end unbearable suffering.
There are dying people right now who are depending on this law.
It is heartless to try and take away this compassionate end-of-life care option from them.
Everyone should be able to decide, in consultation with their doctor and loved ones, the end-of-life care option that is right for them, which honors their faith, spirituality and values.
People who oppose medical aid in dying can refuse to participate in the law, but they shouldn’t have the power to impose their values on others and deny them the option of medical aid in dying.
I call on my elected officials to do everything possible to protect the New Jersey’s Medical Aid in Dying Act.
I applaud Compassion & Choices for representing terminally ill New Jerseyans to overturn this ruling on their behalf.
