In March, Compassion & Choices will attend the American Society on Aging’s Aging in America Conference as a gold sponsor. Kamer helped with the initial planning: preparing presentations and materials, and making sure everything runs smoothly at the conference. Kamer recognizes this event as an opportunity for C&C to make valuable connections in the aging community, saying that our presence there “is going to make a huge difference.”
Kamer is no stranger to the energy of D.C., as a resident and former senior vice president at a large PR firm, so she was ready to jump in when the D.C. Death with Dignity act was challenged at the congressional level. Kamer attended hearings and meetings with Federal Affairs Director Mark Dann. “I can’t do anything but send the praises to Mark as a mentor and partner in doing outreach and trying to make a difference,” she says. Mark too “relies on her keen acumen, advice and experience.” Kamer doesn’t have a personal story that brought her to C&C, but she knows so many do, and sometimes that’s enough.
