The Greenfield Recorder: Letter: In support of Death with Dignity legislation

February 2, 2022

An excerpt from the Greenfield Recorder letter to the editor, “In support of Death with Dignity legislation, by Florence resident Linda Matson, published February 2, 2022:

“As a long-time RN, I’ve seen a lot of peaceful, mostly painless deaths due to the wonderful skills and services of hospice and palliative care.

But I’ve also seen too many others where patients’ pain and suffering are prolonged, causing needless pain and sorrow for them and their loved ones. That’s why I’m in favor of our state joining 10 others, including Maine, Vermont, and New Jersey — plus Washington D.C. — to legalize the compassionate option of medical aid in dying, also known as Death with Dignity. The bill in our legislature is The End of Life Options Act (H.2381 and S.1384). It has more support than ever before from 66 House members and 18 senators, including nearly every legislator in Western Mass.”
