Thank You, 2020 Summer Legal Fellows

Compassion & Choices’ Legal Advocacy and Policy department  and the entire Compassion & Choices staff bid a fond farewell to our 2020 summer legal fellows.

 Ellie Persellin

Ellie Persellin graduated from Rice University with a BA in Political Science and Policy Studies, then went to the University of Oxford where she received a Master of Science in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation. Ellie currently attends Georgetown University Law Center. With her strong background in policy work, she brought great insight to her role.

Cameron Newton graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in Political Science. Cameron currently attends William & Mary Law School. He previously interned for the 6th Congressional District of South Carolina, where he conducted legislative research for Congressman James Clyburn’s staff and managed various projects. Cameron has always wanted to be an advocate, and that’s precisely why he decided to attend law school. Cameron “developed a firm belief that all Americans deserve greater end-of-life autonomy” at a young age, after going through a difficult end-of-life experience in his family.

Cameron Newton

This summer, these two bright rising legal professionals helped with:

  • Providing case support for projects in Idaho, New Jersey, Oregon and Texas.
  • Tracking U.S. Supreme Court opinions, drafting analyses of all relevant decisions and their potential effects on our work.
  • Completing a research project on international end-of-life laws and regulations.
  • Completing a research project on statutory interpretation.
  • Reviewing legal ethics rules to formulate new website legal disclaimer language.
  • Performing several legal intakes of potential clients.

We look forward to seeing their success continue to grow but will miss having their brilliant minds supporting our work.
