Compassion & Choices issued the following statement with regards to the UK parliament’s vote today Friday, November 29, 2024:
“The UK Parliament has taken a significant step in addressing critical end-of-life issues that impact everyone. We commend their government for engaging in vigorous and thoughtful debate, culminating in this landmark vote. This effort reflects an important recognition of the deeply personal and diverse values that shape people’s choices at the end of life—a crucial foundation for creating sensible and compassionate policies.
In the United States, similar conversations have been unfolding for over 30 years, contributing to meaningful advancements such as the expansion of hospice care, palliative care, and the authorization of medical aid in dying in some jurisdictions. These efforts underscore a shared commitment on both sides of the Atlantic to improving and expanding options in end-of-life care.”
