Medical Aid in Dying Act scheduled for House hearing; committee needs your input

March 21, 2017

The Hawai‘i Medical Aid in Dying Act (SB 1129) has crossed over to the House of Representatives after the Senate voted 22-3 in favor of the bill. The House Health Committee has scheduled a hearing and needs to hear from you and your loved ones about why you support medical aid in dying.

On Thursday, the House Health Committee will hear testimony on the Medical Aid in Dying Act, legislation that would authorize medical aid in dying in Hawai‘i. A successful hearing is imperative to advancing the legislation this year. To ensure success, supporters like you must take immediate action to ensure lawmakers understand how strongly you feel about this issue. Submitting your written testimony today will be crucial in determining whether it passes through the committee and continues its progress.

Please take time right now to submit your testimony to the committee, explaining why you support medical aid in dying. The deadline for submissions is tomorrow (Wednesday, March 22) at 8:30 a.m.

Note that the state legislature website requires a quick registration process if you have not previously created an account.

Submitting your testimony today could make a big difference in the way the committee approaches this hearing. Nothing is more compelling to lawmakers than the personal stories of support from their constituents. Yours could be the one that connects with a lawmaker who will decide whether this legislation continues its progress on Thursday.

Even if you submitted testimony to the previous committee, your testimony to the House Health Committee is still absolutely necessary, even if it is very similar to that which you’ve submitted before. Please use the links below to submit your testimony by 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
