At their best, faith communities are sacred spaces where people can find comfort, connection, and guidance — especially in life’s challenging moments. They are uniquely positioned to cultivate meaningful conversations about the end of life, grief, caregiving, and legacy.
That’s why Compassion & Choices has engaged with faith leaders and communities for years. Together, we’ve hosted informative webinars, advocated for end-of-life options, distributed helpful resources, and more.
Our latest offering is “Faith at the Threshold: A Toolkit for End-of-Life Ministry,” a free resource for both ordained and lay faith leaders to bring thoughtful programming around end-of-life topics to their congregations.
“‘Faith at the Threshold’ is a really useful and insightful resource with practical ideas for how to bring end-of-life conversations to faith communities,” shares Isabella Carr, M.Div., former Engagement Fellow at Compassion & Choices and one of the toolkit’s co-creators.
It offers step-by-step guidance and a variety of programming ideas — including facilitating support circles and study groups, hosting educational workshops and film screenings, offering one-on-one counseling, and more — which can all be adapted to fit a community’s unique interests and needs.
If you belong to a faith community but don’t hold a formal leadership role, you can still make a difference. Share your ideas and this toolkit with your leaders and invite them to partner with you in this ministry.
