Rosalind Kipping, the inaugural Allyne Hammer co-award winner, has been an advocate for end-of-life options for decades. In the 1970s and 80s she was living in California where she became a member of Hemlock Society USA, sticking with the organization through its many iterations and ideological shifts before becoming Compassion & Choices. Rosalind has always been a fervent advocate for bodily autonomy and the right to make informed choices about end-of-life care. Her journey took her to different places, until she found her home in Maryland in 2007.
During her time in Maryland she became an instrumental figure in the Washington Area Chapter Compassion & Choices. First serving as Vice President, and then President once her predecessor retired. Even as the organization evolved, Rosalind remained dedicated to her mission and continued her work with Compassion & Choices.
Rosalind established a recognized Compassion & Choices group at the Leisure World of Maryland, a retirement community in Silver Spring, Maryland, enabling her to hold well-attended meetings bi-monthly for several years, all while contributing articles to the 46-page Leisure Word News Health Section. Her dedication has been instrumental in raising awareness about end-of-life options within the community.
Additionally, Rosalind has been a steadfast representative of the Compassion & Choices Maryland team at the Montgomery County Palliative Care and End of Life Coalition, an umbrella organization of various related groups operating under the County Agency on Aging. She has also maintained her presence in Marylanders for End-of-Life Options, a non-profit founded in 2017 staffed by dedicated volunteers focused on passing the Maryland End-of-Life Option Act.
Rosalind Kipping’s remarkable journey and unwavering commitment to advocating for end-of-life options make her a true inspiration to us all. Her dedication to the end-of-life options movement in Maryland continues to help her community and beyond. We are honored to recognize her as this year’s recipient of the Allyne Hammer Excellence in Advocacy Award
