UPDATE: A New Jersey superior court granted a motion by state Attorney General Gurbir Grewal on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, to dismiss the lawsuit! The ruling ends the threat to the law for now, but we remain vigilant against any and all efforts by the plaintiffs to appeal the judge’s ruling and any other legal challenges to the law in the future.

History
On August 14, 2019, a New Jersey judge granted a temporary restraining order preventing physicians from writing prescriptions for medications in accordance with the New Jersey Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act.
On August 27, 2019, A New Jersey appellate court granted a request by state Attorney General Gurbir Grewal to overturn a temporary restraining order that had suspended the Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act and the Supreme Court of New Jersey denied the plaintiff's application to reverse the appellate court's ruling. As a result of these two rulings, the Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act will remain in effect pending future proceedings.
Oral arguments were heard to dismiss the lawsuit at the trial court on March 24, 2020. The ruling to dismiss the lawsuit was made on April 1, 2020.
