Compassion & Choices has been monitoring the progress of Senate Bill 2961, Compassionate Care Act of 2016. We are so pleased endorse this legislation that aims to improve end-of-life care by providing federal support to educate patients and providers as it develops core end-of-life care quality measures.
S. 2961 will authorize a national public education initiative for people to engage in advance care planning and measure its effectiveness. If you follow us on Facebook, we frequently have discussions surrounding the need for us to be empowered patients. This is exactly what we’ve been calling for.
Are you a healthcare professional? You may be interested to know that this bill will establish a grant program to fund health-profession education schools to train and evaluate practitioners in palliative medicine, including advance care planning conversations with patients, with clinical rotations through a variety of healthcare settings.
We will keep you abreast as this legislation makes its way through the process. You can read the full legislative brief here.
