Pride month may be over, but our commitment to equity at the end of life for everyone is not. This year, Compassion & Choices is celebrating Pride across California virtually. In San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Diego, we are spreading awareness about the California End of Life Option Act. Our Public Service Announcements have been running during virtual pride celebrations, reaching thousands of Californians!
In years past, our Pride in a Box campaign gave our supporters tools to spread education and awareness about end of life at PRIDE events across the country. It has been one of our most successful advocacy campaigns and is beloved by supporters and staff alike. This year, most in-person PRIDE events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so we found other ways to continue our outreach.
In June, we launched our LGBTQ+ Communities for Choices web page, a hub for LGBTQ+ end-of-life resources, stories and news. The end of life can be more difficult for LGBTQ+ people and their families due to continued discrimination and under-representation of LGBTQ+ relationships. That’s why we work hard to address these disparities, create resources and conduct outreach to the LGBTQ+ community.
