On February 16, 2023, a medical aid-in-dying bill (SB 0864) was filed in the Florida Senate, the first bill of its kind since 2020. The House introduced its version of the bill (HB 1231) on March 6, 2023.
2020
On January 10, 2020, SB 1800 was introduced, which would authorize medical aid in dying in Florida. The bill was withdrawn for consideration on March 14, 2020
Dan Diaz, husband to Brittany Maynard, toured across the Sunshine State in February 2020 to talk about the work to expand end-of-life options he carries on in her legacy. Dan covered over 900 miles, held eight talks and events sharing Brittany’s story.
2019
In December, Compassion & Choices hosted the Florida Campaign Training events for seven state Action Teams on both the east and west coasts of Florida bringing in around 60 volunteers over two days. Those teams received training on our Tools to Finish Strong, discussing end-of-life options in Florida and campaign training.
