Faced with a terminal diagnosis, Delaware residents deserve the full range end-of-life care options, including medical aid in dying. Medical aid in dying allows terminally ill adults to get a prescription they can take to end their life peacefully.
The Ron Silverio/Heather Block Delaware End of Life Options Act (HB 140), named for two deceased Compassion & Choices’ storytellers who advocated passionately for the bill was reintroduced for the 2021/2022 legislative session on June 30, 2021. The bill was released by the House Health & Human Development Committee on January 19, 2022, but did not advance further during the 2021/2022 session.
By a two-to-one margin, Delaware residents feel that allowing doctors to legally prescribe lethal drugs to help terminally ill patients end their own lives should be an end-of-life option in the state. Read the Delaware polling memo.
