Our caring EOLC consultants provide information and education on:
- Benefits of palliative and hospice care
- Completing advance directives
- Ways to navigate the healthcare system
- How friends and family members can advocate for their loved ones
- How to ask for effective pain and symptom management
- Medical aid in dying for terminally ill, mentally capable adults
- Other means for attaining a peaceful death, such as
- voluntarily stopping eating and drinking (VSED)
- refusing unwanted medical treatment
- discontinuing life-sustaining treatment under the care of a physician
- Compassionate, patient-centered end-of-life care

Q: Where do I find advance planning and end-of-life information, or forms such as a state-specific advance directive? Our End-of-Life Planning page has advance healthcare planning and end-of-life information, resources and forms that you can download and print from home computers.
Q: What should I expect if I call an end-of-life consultant? Our 1-800 number connects callers to a confidential voicemail system. A highly trained consultant will return the call to learn about the situation and provide information and support.
Q: How do I discuss my end-of-life wishes with my doctor or family members? Plainly, simply and honestly. Speaking with one of our end-of-life consultants often helps people clarify their goals so they can more easily communicate them to others.
Q: If I live in a state that does not yet authorize aid in dying should I move to a state that does? That depends; there are multiple options available to people across the nation. An end-of-life consultant can share information about the choices that are available and support those considering aid in dying based on their situation and values.
Q: Can a consultant give me a referral or a list of doctors who are willing to prescribe aid-in-dying medication in my area? We do not maintain a list of doctors who prescribe medical aid-in-dying medication. At Compassion & Choices we are working towards the goal that all providers and medical systems provide the full range of end-of-life care options. Our consultants can provide you information on supportive healthcare systems as well as useful language to use to request a referral from your current provider or when changing healthcare providers to access supportive systems.
