The Advocacy Communications Director at Compassion & Choices has overall responsibility for creating, managing and implementing the in-state traditional media campaign and supporting digital media strategy in their portfolio of states. Serves as press secretary to those key states. Their work is vital to the success of legislative and educational efforts to improve options at the end of life. The Advocacy Communications Director works directly with state communications consultants, senior national media relations director, senior communications associates and state teams. They provide training and mentorship to more junior and mid-level communications staff, and strategic direction to program teams. They are also responsible for identifying storytellers in states and sharing that information with the storyteller program manager. They will provide technical assistance to capacity-building states.
A proven track record in traditional media is required. Traditional media sources include newspapers, radio or television, magazines (and their Internet sites). While this position includes some digital media responsibilities, this is not a digital media position. This position will collaborate with our internal digital media team. A minimum of 10 years’ experience – at least half on Capitol Hill, in a state legislative office, on a political campaign, or at a highly known and effective issue advocacy organization, is required.
Proven experience writing press documents, talking points, speeches, articles, ads, fliers, and other necessary materials that conform to prescribed style and format and that motivate new and existing supporters to engage in the end-of-life choice movement.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or Political Science or an equivalency of related experience and/or education may be considered.
